Is that "health" food really "heathy"?

December 5, 2018

Do you exercise regularly, drink plenty of water and eat "healthy" food, but still feel like you're gaining weight or not staying healthy?  It could mean that you're eating foods that are not good for you as an individual despite their well-known health benefits.

How can this be true?

First of all, many commercially produced foods carry toxic pesticide and herbicide residues.  You may have heard of the Environmental Working Group's "Dirty Dozen" food list.  This list is compiled each year to draw attention to the most pesticide-laden foods (not grown organically) in our food supply.

Topping the list of foods with the most pesticide residues, the Dirty Dozen for 2018 are:

  • Strawberries

  • Spinach

  • Nectarines

  • Apples

  • Grapes

  • Peaches

  • Cherries

  • Pears

  • Tomatoes

  • Celery

  • Potatoes

  • Sweet bell peppers

These all seem like "healthy" foods until you factor in the pesticides!  Pesticides create an astounding toxic burden on your body.  They can easily overwhelm the body's detoxification system and poison the endocrine and nervous systems leading to infertility, weight gain, muscular weakness and even some forms of cancer!  Pesticides are also implicated in many cases of digestive distress.

Another way that "healthy" food can actually be very unhealthy for an individual is when the body sees it as an invader and mounts an immune response to it.  Sometimes this can be life-threatening as in the case of an anaphylactic response many kids have to peanuts.  Most often the immune responses are not as pronounced and generally go unnoticed in the short term.  Over time you may begin to experience more subtle symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, decreased energy, restlessness, joint stiffness and decreased resistance to infections but fail to connect it to any specific food because the immune reaction is delayed.  Both types of reactions deplete the immune system of the vital nutrients that your body would otherwise use for energy and normal repair processes.  If the offending food continues to be eaten, a nutrient and repair deficit occurs sometimes leading to immune deficiencies and out of balance reactions.  This is NOT a healthy situation!

The good news is that modern medical science has found a way to determine any delayed hypersensitivity reactions you may be having to more than 500 specific substances (foods/environmental), so you can avoid them.  The test is known as the Lymphocyte Response Assay (LRA) by ELIZA/ACT. The LRA by ELIZA/ACT requires only a simple blood draw and yields profoundly important, individualized results.  I consider this test a MUST for anyone dealing with an immune system challenge like auto-immunity and a great benefit to everyone who would like to make truly healthy food choices.

The information you receive from it is empowering!!
